ukraine .......... day 19

Yesterday I was able to get the kids outside again, we played at the playground and we all had a good time.  I had to cut the visit a little short because it started to snow and was very windy and cold, but for my first solo visit I think things went well!  Sawyer is definitely "over" the excitement of our visits!  The last 3 times he has thrown a fit when we arrive, today I just let the nannies take him back to the groupa and Kenzie and I hung out in the hallway.  I will try again tomorrow.  I am not sure how he's going to react when we leave here ..... but I'm pretty sure it's not going to be pleasant for anyone!
I had planned on going to Sovietska and the open air market today to look for shoes and tights for the kids, but it was really cold and I'm not feeling well so I came back to the apartment and took a nap.  I haven't really had a full nights sleep since we've been gone and It's starting to wear on me!  My body just will NOT regulate to the time change.  I'm struggling to stay awake at 2pm and then when it's bedtime I'm wired, so today I just gave in and slept for about three hours and hopefully tonight  I can get some more.....I see more benadryl in my future!  The market is closed on Mondays so I will head down there on Tuesday if the weather cooperates.
Jon made it to Kiev without any problems, he ended up having a first class cabin on the train all to himself and was able to get some rest.  Sasha told me he was nervous about leaving me here alone, so she's been checking on me : ) I really am fine!  Just lonely at times.  Nico met him at the train station, gave him a phone and got him settled into an apartment for the day.  We were able to talk throughout the day while Jon went exploring.  He found some stores that we'll have to visit when we get back to Kiev and bought a few children's books in English/Russian.  I just checked on his flight and he is about 2 hours outside of Chicago, so far his flights have been on time.  I'm worried that he might get stuck in Chicago though, the weather there is bad and his flight doesn't leave until 5pm.  Well, that's all for now, I don't have any new pics...maybe tomorrow!

  1. Will someone help you get the kids back to Kiev?It takes time for kids to adjust to new things so the more you see them the better. Hope your not getting sick, try to get some rest. Hey Samantha don't go getting sick on us. Sounds like we are going to need all hands on deck for our journey home. Maybe he will warm up to us while we are in Kiev and things hopefully will be alright. I'm sure it is just as upsetting to him not being used to you and taken out of a routine he has become accustomed to. What do the children like to eat? Do they have basically the same foods everyday? Weather here has been unusually warm for this time of year. Has been breaking records in the Valley. Well hang in there kiddo get some rest and we will be along shortly. Love Mom and Dad.

  2. Hi, can't wait to meet the new niece and nephew! So when do the kids go with you full time?

I know that it has to be hard for you when Sawyer throws a fit upon your arrival, but don't take it personally. Children often act out when dealing with change. It becomes a test of endurance and love. (see my e-mail)
And... Kenzie seems happy, so one out of two isn't bad :)

Don't get sick--you're the nurse, you know what to do. Enjoy this time, stay busy to help it pass quickly.

    Love ya,
    Ranelle

  3. Just wanted to let you know that I will take care of Max. It sounds like Jon has run into some weather problems, so I will go and do my duties in the morning. Hang in there with Sawyer, they don't call it the "terrible 2's" for nothing. You will both make it through. Hope you are feeling better soon and are able to get some rest. Only 10 and a half days left and you will have mom and dad to help. Talk to you soon.

    Love,
    Erica

  4. Samatha: we just talked to Jon and he is Snowbound in Chicago and doesn't know when he will get a flight out. The weather is really nasty back in the Midwest now. Said he did not want to leave you there by yourself but knows he needs to get back to work. He said the Groupa is nice and clean and the Nannies are real good with the children. Said Kenzie has really taken to you but Sawyer is quite a handfull. So hang in there and we'll be along. love Mom and Dad.

  5. Oh the weather here has been awful, we got a foot of snow in MN and its in Chicago now. I heard flights were delayed and then stopped in Chicago so hopefully he can be on his way to sunny AZ soon. :)

Have Sasha (facilitator) talk to Sawyer and see whats up. At least she can tell him whats going on and talk him up a little, tell him to be nice. LOL I know she chatted with Alina a bit and sometimes it helped to have a native speaker talk to her when she wasn't understanding. Everything will be ok. Alina was a HANDFULL at hte baby house, but when we left she was like an entirely new child. I think she was in shockb ut it worked to our advantage! LOL.
